Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
